Commencement

Commencement has always been a most important College event. Proceeded by Senior Week and the Honors Convocation, the event is normally held the first or second Sunday of May.

Commencement is currently held in the Jerome T. Osborne Family Athletic & Wellness Center. The ceremony has been held in various locations on campus over the years, beginning with College Hall. As College Hall was the first, and for many years, the only building on campus, Commencement took place on the front steps until the 1890s. As construction of the south wing was completed, many ceremonies took place on the rear porch.

Other sites used for Commencement ceremonies have included Memorial Hall, which was the College chapel destroyed by fire in April of 1957, the Helen Rockwell Morley Memorial Music Building and the College Green in the center of campus.
