Welcome to Lake Erie College

Higher education involves a series of critical decisions: defining circumstances and contexts, identifying alternative viewpoints and theories, asserting contentions and arguments that are insightful and tenable, reaching deductive conclusions. We celebrate the series of critical decisions which have led you to our website, and we invite you to join with us in helping to continue the legacy of Lake Erie College in the 16th and 17th decades of its existence and beyond!

Although we are proud of our institutional heritage, dating back to 1856, we understand fully our commitment and responsibility to prepare students to become local, regional, national, and international leaders for the 21st-century world. Our liberal arts curriculum, regardless of a student’s particular major, provides critical thinking skills and critical writing expertise that will be necessary and worthwhile intellectual characteristics for success and leadership in the future. Our faculty members are dedicated to the idea and ideals of a liberal arts curriculum, and our small class sizes and the access that students have to professors help to define our values and purposes as a campus community.

Our nationally acclaimed programs in fields as disparate as Equine Studies and Entrepreneurial Business provide professional credentials and degrees, and virtually all of our majors include practicum experiences and cooperative learning opportunities so that our graduates move seamlessly into the professional world, to graduate schools and to professional schools. Please peruse our website at your convenience and contact us with any questions or concerns that you might have about your academic future. We hope that you will make a personal visit to our picturesque campus in Painesville, located in Ohio’s historic Western Reserve. If you do, please stop by my office in 111 College Hall so that we can discuss your future goals and aspirations!

Very truly yours,

Richard A. Sax, Ph.D.
