Visual Arts Department
Fine
Arts (with visual arts concentration)
Lake Erie College's Visual Arts program is centered on
an interdisciplinary studies curriculum that prepares students
for exciting careers in the arts. This comprehensive liberal
arts approach to learning incorporates intensive studio
technique classes, art theory and criticism, and studies
in visual culture. The Visual Arts program fosters students'
self-confidence and skills by giving them opportunities
to think critically, communicate effectively, and market
their talents.
The BFA major culminates in an exhibition of the student's
work in the College's B.K. Smith Gallery in the Fine Arts
building. Students install their work and handle all curatorial
and preparatory tasks, including lighting and arrangement
of artwork. Candidates also produce publicity materials
including press releases, invitations, and an artist statement,
and they plan their opening reception. The reception provides
the invaluable opportunity for them to speak publicly about
their work.
Lake Erie College also offers an Arts Management degree
for those who love the arts and want to prepare for careers
in museums, galleries, and in other nonprofit arts organizations.
