Assistant Professor of Literacy

Lake Erie College, a small, co-educational, four-year, independent liberal arts college located in Painesville, OH, 30 miles east of Cleveland, invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor of literacy, reporting to the dean of the School of Education and Professional Studies.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, coordinating the reading endorsement program, teaching undergraduate reading courses and online graduate reading endorsement courses, and active recruitment for the reading endorsement program. In addition:

  • Maintains accreditation compliance by contributing reading endorsement assessment data to the ODHE and CAEP accreditation submissions as required for program renewal.
  • Collaborates with admissions to recruit teachers for the reading endorsement program.
  • Maintains collaboration with local school districts for practicum sites.
  • Analyzes program assessment reports and set plans for program improvement.
  • Attends monthly School of Education and Professional Studies department meetings.

Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching in a liberal arts college environment. To be considered for the assistant professor position, the candidate should hold a PhD in literacy and/or reading and have at least three-five years of preK-12th grade teaching experience with a current or renewal teaching license. In addition:

  • Experience teaching both undergraduate and graduate-level courses.
  • Extensive experience teaching phonics, literacy assessment, and ELA methods.
  • Deep knowledge and application of Ohio’s ELA and ILA standards.
  • Ability to organize, implement, and assess online courses.
  • Ability to use TaskStream to build assessment platforms for the reading endorsement program.
  • Experience developing program assessments across licensure bands including: early childhood preK-3rd; special education mild to moderate; AYA: math, science, social studies and language arts.
  • Ability to conduct and publish research related to reading and literacy.
  • Ability to present at local, state, and national conferences.
