Horse Profiles

These are a few of the horses we have in our riding program.

POGO AVANTOS - 16.2 h Dutch Warmblood. "Pogo" just joined us in 2015 not long after competing at WEF in the High Performance Hunter Derby. He has also been shown in the jumpers through Grand Prix, Performance Hunters and Equitation. Our students have been given a great opportunity to compete on a school horse of this caliber and Pogo is already becoming one of the stars of our jumper program.

DONELL - 16.2 h Canadian Warmblood gelding. "Telly" arrived on the scene in 2014 and is an extremely valuable addition to both our hunter and jumper programs. An instant favorite, Telly has become a popular choice for students to show and is now competing in the level 3 jumpers. "I always look forward to riding Telly!" said student Tatiana Eagles. "He is one of the coolest horses I've ever ridden because every time I ride him I feel like he teaches me something new."
COLOR ME ZIGGY - 14 h. Paint mare. "Ziggy" arrived to LEC in 2011. Prior to her life as a school horse, Ziggy was competing in the pony jumpers at A rated shows. She is quite the firecracker and continues her career as a jumper at the College. Ziggy has been on several Jumper Prix de Villes teams and has proven to be a champion in the ring. Students in our jumper program feel fortunate to be able to work with this talented mare.
DELILAH -15.3 h Hanoverian mare. "Delilah" became a part of our program in 2012 and is the perfect school horse for us. She had been competing in training level dressage and beginner novice eventing prior to her arrival at LEC. Delilah now competes in the hunters and IHSA both at home and on the road. Instructor Alex Shokat showed Delilah over the summer of 2014 and states, "Delilah is a super school horse, and is learning more and more what it takes to be great in the hunter ring. She is easy to ride, prefers a bit of a technically easy course and can get it done."
WISHES - 15.2 h Dutch Warmblood mare. "Wishes" came to us in 2010 and quickly became a good, all-around school horse. Students with various levels of experience are seeing success in the hunter ring with Wishes. She makes a great IHSA mount as well. This wonderful mare is a fantastic confidence builder and we are so fortunate to have her in our program. "Wishes has taught me patience, that I don't think I could have learned on my own," said student Tiphani Beckett "Even when she didn't know what I was asking she would still try for me."

LEROY BROWN - 15.3 h Thoroughbred gelding. "Leroy" has been a part of our family since 2012 and has quickly become a favorite. He came to Lake Erie College after a three-year career as a children's jumper and continues his career as a jumper. He has become a popular summer lease horse among our students and has travelled around the country, competing in level 3 jumpers during summer break at venues such as Mason City, Iowa and Parker, Colorado. He also competes at home in our home shows and IHSA. Leroy has been an invaluable addition to our program.

WILLIE - 16 h. TB g. "Willie" came to us from New Hampshire after competing up and down the East coast of the United States. Successful in the Children's hunters, Equitation, and Children's Jumpers - including numerous wins in the Marshall & Sterling - Willie is a fantastic addition to our hunter/jumper programs. He has a kind personality, calm demeanor and great athletic ability.

GRAY'S ANATOMY - 15.3 TK/TB g. "Piper" has quickly become a favorite in both the hunter and jumper program. Donated in 2009, Piper is a talented - horse with the ability to show in both disciplines. He came to us from an "A" circuit show barn after being outgrown by his owner. Piper is the consummate show horse and an excellent, patient teacher for a young horse.

SIENNA - 16 h. TB g."Hawk" has been with our program since 2007. He is a schoolmaster in the hunter ring after a successful career on the "A" circuit. Hawk has done it all, from the regular working hunters to the adult amateurs. He has truly "been there, done that" and has the ego to match! Hawk can also add therapeutic horsemanship to his resume, as he is now an integral part of our therapeutic horsemanship program and has become a quick favorite.
DAKS FIFTH AVENUE - 16 h. Rhinelander/TB mare. A stand-out in our hunter program, "Daks" has been with us since 2002. In her prior life she won numerous pre-green and equitation championships on the "A" circuit. Daks is a favorite draw in IHSA competitions and has been a top ribbon winner in our Prix de Villes Hunter Derby several times. Daks wins the hearts of everyone who is fortunate enough to ride her.
Wingman 16.1 - Oldenburg gelding. Wingman, or Simba as he is known around the barn, began his college career in September 2015 as a donation to our dressage program. At one time Simba had an extensive record as a hunter but decided that he would rather dance than jump and traded the jumps for letters. Simba became a quick favorite after his arrival, consistently scoring in the upper 60s and low 70s at our rated dressage shows. Simba’s quiet and patient nature led us to discover his suitability for use in our therapeutic riding program as well. Our students will benefit tremendously from having a horse as invaluable as Simba in our program.
Chino AKA CapuccinoWürttemberger. Chino came to us in April 2010 from the Florida circuit where he had been competing at PSG and Intermediate I, scoring in the mid 60s and schooling at Grand Prix. Chino’s training includes a year in Germany with Hubertus Schmidt. This schoolmaster’s extensive training enables our students to experience the correct feel of upper level dressage movements such as piaffe and canter pirouettes. We are truly grateful to have such a gifted horse in our program.
