Brittany Ankrom, Transfer Admissions and Credentialing Coordinator

Originally from Hartville, Ohio, Brittany Ankrom joined the admissions team at Lake Erie College this past summer as the Transfer Admissions and Credentialing Coordinator.

Brittany is a double graduate of Kent State University, having attended KSU for both undergraduate and graduate studies. She holds a bachelors degree with a major in visual journalism and a minor in sociology. As part of her undergraduate experience, she worked for the University's student newspaper and magazine, and she also interned for The Chautauquan Daily and Cleveland Magazine.

Following graduation, Brittany worked at a senior portrait studio as a photographer. She also did independent photography work, photographing weddings and families and doing freelance work for Great Lakes Publishing.

Though she enjoyed this experience, the promise of higher education beckoned Brittany back to Kent State where she earned a masters degree in higher education administration and student personnel. In graduate school, Brittany focused on and served practicums in academic advising, career services and enrollment management. She also completed a graduate assistantship with the College of Educations library, providing educational technology support and teaching workshops for students, faculty and staff.

With these degrees under her belt, Brittanys employment at LEC is her first professional position out of graduate school. She couldnt imagine a better environment in which to start her career. "I feel very fortunate for the experiences this position has provided me with so far, she said. "When I was learning about LEC, the small community, academic programs and the focus on the liberal arts stood out to me. I love that the College is student-centered!

Within her department, Brittanys position combines many of her interests in student affairs. "I enjoy working with students and hearing their stories, she said. "I am most successful when a transfer student has a seamless, stress-free transition to the Lake Erie College community and is excited to start courses! As she continues in her position, Brittany hopes to develop more transfer guides and other transfer resources to illustrate how simple the transfer process can be.

Working at LEC, Brittany is able to interact with senior college administrators and work with transfer students throughout the entire transfer process, two opportunities she might not be offered at another institution. Brittany also enjoys the chance to work in a close-knit environment on a campus full of history and tradition.

"As a staff member, I appreciate the sense of community among the LEC faculty and staff, she said. "Professionally, I appreciate that I get to learn about and collaborate with many different functional areas in higher education.

Brittany has some sage advice for potential students considering LEC. "Visit campus and come with questions! she said. "I think once you see the Lake Erie College campus and meet our student-centered faculty and staff, you will see yourself here achieving your goals.
