Elissar H.
Beachwood, OH
Class of 2019

Elissar was born in Lebanon and raised in Nigeria, West Africa and moved to Beachwood, OH in 2011. She grew up in Nigeria with her family until the age of 15, then moved back to Lebanon where she got married at 16 and went back to Africa with her husband. Elissar had to be dependent on herself in a different world with no family or friends, which made her become a strong and independent woman. She had her son in Africa and all her time there was spent taking care of her child and helping her husband with his work. She filled her time with reading, including all kinds of books, magazines, journals and newspapers. To Elissar, reading was like exploring, learning, and finding new things about the mind, body and the way we live in this world. As the years went by very fast, her little son became a young man looking for a better future, so in the year 2011, she moved to Cleveland with him after he got accepted to a local university. After settling in Cleveland, Elissar started thinking about her dreams. Science and medicine have always been always an interest in her life, but unfortunately, she had no opportunities to get an education in Africa. Living in the United States, she got a chance to go back to school, study, and build a new future for herself. Elissar got into Tri-C East in 2013 and did two years then, then transferred to Cleveland State University in the fall of 2015 were she will be finished her bachelor’s degree in Health and Sciences in the spring of 2017. She studied hard with passion and received excellent grades while also taking care of her family. She shadowed at Cleveland Clinic for couple of months and did a lot of volunteering helping patients recover from illness or surgery. In Africa, Elissar saw people suffer and die just from a simple injury or illness, but was unable to treat or do anything to them other than comfort them with kindness and care. Elissar feels so happy and lucky to be a Lake Erie College, Physician Assistant student. In addition, she loves to travel around the world (which she has been doing for a while) and learn different cultures and beliefs.
