What makes Lake Erie College a unique place?

  • Our Learning Communities set us apart and make the LEC experience unique. I’m in charge of our Arts, Culture, and Humanities Learning Community in which we use Superman to explore the changing landscape of American culture since the late 1930s. We investigate the intersection of writing, art, economics, business, design, and the changing foci of popular culture through the lens of Superman and superheroes. This past fall semester, our Learning Community students had the opportunity to have a special meet and greet panel discussion with Michael Uslan, the executive producer of the Batmanfilm franchise. Uslan was LEC’s Founders’ Day speaker, but our Learning Community was able to meet with him in a smaller group and talk with him about comics, the films, and the decisions that helped him become successful in his chosen career. This was an intriguing and invaluable opportunity for our students. Other activities include a trip to the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage, a visit to the Superman House, movie nights, and involvement in the spring trip for all four Learning Communities.
