Lake Erie College IDA team aces the USDF/IDA Quiz Challenge at IDA Nationals

Equine,

The Lake Erie College Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA) team attended IDA Nationals April 29-30, 2017 in Long Valley, NJ and put on a stellar performance. In particular, the USDF/IDA Quiz Challenge was a huge success - LEC students won every part of this challenge in which they participated!

The USDF/IDA Quiz Challenge results were as follows:

First Level Division: Renee Monzon, 1st place
Upper Training Division: Giuliana Raggio, 1st place
Lower Training Division: Elizabeth Affeld, 1st place and Alexa Clark, 2nd place

Elizabeth also won Grand Champion of the Quiz Challenge, meaning she had the highest score out of anyone in the Quiz. As Grand Champion, she won a month-long internship at Hilltop Farm, which she will be doing this summer.

In the team competition, LEC’s IDA riders made their mark this year with the team coming in 7th place in the Nation. Lake Erie College riders received the following placings for each of their team rides:

First Level: Renee Monzon, 8th place
Upper Training: Giuliana Raggio, 2nd place
Lower Training: Elizabeth Affeld, 11th place
Introductory: Hannah Lujbli, 8th place

Prizes awarded to each team member and coach were a Zoetis vest and DSB boots or whip.

The IDA Nationals also included a day for individual national qualifiers to compete. LEC’s Giuliana Raggio qualified in the Upper Training division and landed in 9th place at Nationals. She received a saddle pad and an Ovation helmet as prizes.

It is safe to say that being 7th in the nation as a team with an individual rider as the 9th best Upper Training IDA rider in the country is very promising for Lake Erie College. Senior Renee Monzon states, “Everybody had absolutely fantastic rides the entire weekend. Really, everybody is very pleased with how we did individually and as a team. I'm so incredibly proud of these girls and all the work they've put in over the season. We were blessed with the opportunity to represent the college at this event.” Renee will be missed after graduation, but we wish her the best of luck in her new ventures!

Having a team with experience at IDA Nationals should make for an extremely competitive year in 2017/2018. We look forward to see what our current riders, new recruits and coach Debby Savage will bring us next year.
