Sarah Escandon, Class of 2016, Integrated Media, Digital Arts and Technology
Oftentimes, people mistakenly believe that commuter students don't have the opportunity to be fully engaged in the college experience. For senior Sarah Escandon, this opinion couldn't be further from the truth.
Though she initially chose to attend Lake Erie College due to its proximity to home and its affordability, Sarah has been incredibly involved across campus over the years. She is a member of Alpha Psi Omega, the campus theatre society, and is known for her heavy involvement in various theatre productions. She also recently tried out for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) English Team and made the team.
Reflecting her interest in the arts, Sarah is pursuing a major in integrated media, digital arts and technology, more commonly known as IMDAT, as well as a minor in theatre. Her favorite thing about LEC is the small class sizes that allow for productive interaction with one's peers and teachers. "The small campus here really makes for a friendly environment," she said. "Everyone is always willing to help you; you just have to ask."
As a result of her academic and extracurricular interests, Sarah has spent many hours in Royce Hall for the Fine and Performing Arts, such that many of her favorite stories are set here. "One of my favorite memories is of making a dragon out of paper mache and chicken wire with my friends Zora Patton and Emily Skinner for our design class," she said. "We made it on the second floor of the fine arts building so that it looked out over people as they walked through the gallery. It was fun working on the dragon itself, but even more fun watching peoples" expressions as they passed by!"
In five years, Sarah hopes to be putting her degree to use and working in the film industry, specifically on a set as a production assistant. "I would love to be involved with a production team in some way," she said. "Who knows, maybe you'll see my name in the credits!"
Sarah wants prospective students to know that, in addition to having a beautiful campus, Lake Erie College is a place full of opportunity. "The people of LEC will help you grow academically and push you toward your goals," she said. "There are so many chances to get involved."
